DeAndre Hopkins Retires, Announces Pro Wrestling Career
NEW ORLEANS, LA — DeAndre Hopkins unintentionally launched his professional wrestling career on the NFL’s season debut of Monday Night Football. After a pass intended for Hopkins was intercepted, the wide receiver unleashed a flawless suplex slam on the unfortunate Saints defender. However, Hopkins didn’t stop there. He proactively stepped over his dazed victim and after making eye contact with the Saints sideline, began to vigorously lick his lips. The Saints bench stormed the field and a melee ensued. The Houston receiver was awarded a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty for his actions.
After the game, Hopkins was asked by the media about his penalty to which he cheekily responded, “Next time, I’ll play touch football.”
It appears that there won’t be a next time though. This morning, Hopkins announced his retirement from professional football. The reason – to pursue a career in professional wrestling.
“The thrill I got from executing that suplex slam was unlike any I have ever experienced while playing professional football. After deep reflection and conversations with my family and agent, I have decided to retire from the NFL in order to pursue my WWE dream.
Hopkins plans to wrestle under the alias “Necessary Roughness.” He will debut for WWE on SmackDown sometime this fall.
