Joel Embiid Out for Game 7 with Injured Funny Bone
TORONTO, CA —The 76ers star was scratched from the starting lineup late last night. The injury prone center hurt his funny bone as he was being transported to Toronto for the upcoming Game 7 showdown. The ulna, more commonly known as the funny bone, is a long bone that stretches from the elbow to the base of the hand. The ulnar nerve is the largest unprotected nerve in the human body. It runs the length of ulna and is the cause of pain stemming from funny bone injuries. Blunt trauma to the exposed ulnar nerve results in several seconds of intense, concentrated pain. Some people report the pain reverberating throughout their forearm and elbow area. While funny bone injuries can be quite painful (and not at all funny), the discomfort subsides in a matter of seconds. The injury is more often considered a nuisance than a serious concern.
It is unknown how Embiid was hurt. The 76ers staff go to extraordinary measures to protect their center. Protocol demands that Embiid be wrapped in bubblewrap, helmeted, and placed in a wheelchair before he is transported anywhere. Early speculations suggest that it was after Philly’s staff had rolled Embiid to his hotel room that the incident occurred. Allegedly, Embiid collapsed on his bed after his bubblewrap had been removed and the star’s elbow connected with the wooden bed frame as he fell. Embiid initially remained motionless on the bed. However, the player was later seen grimacing as the 76ers medical staff attended to his arm. After 20 minutes of examinations, an immobilizer was placed on the center’s arm, effectively ending all hopes of him playing in Game 7. Philadelphia officials estimate Embiid will be out 2-3 weeks.
